Why Not Interlocks?

One of my first few journal entries was titled “Why Interlocks?” While it doesn’t sound defensive looking back, it was born of this need to explain the choice as if I needed a prepared defense. Years of internalizing the politics of black hair and thinking support was necessary for change will do that to you! Five years later though, I feel none of that and I have the journey to thank for that release.

Locs of all types are simply a hair decision. They are washed and cared for with the same, if not more, effort as loose hair. They don’t need a defense or roll out plan once you decide you want them. Let people fall in line and in love with them on their own time and if they never do, it’s quite literally not your business

I hope that my journey helped anyone interested in making any change feel more confident in standing fully in it. I’m not updating 13th on a monthly cadence after today but it will live on forever. It’s officially the static version of what I could not find during the research phase before I committed to starting my loc journey.
