Quarantine Pickups: Enamel Pin Edition
My mother has always accused me of “liking too much stuff.” In my childhood it was stickers, notebooks and gel pens. I was a keeper of all things pretty and enjoyed thinking up new ways to organize all my stuff. As I take stock of the things I have a lot of these days, I’m still that little girl that’s obsessed with her trinkets. Now, they inspire my work, act as a form of expression on my clothing and just generally make me happy.
Supporting them during the crisis was a tiny way to give back to my creative community.
Enamel pins are one of those things for me. I love them and have amassed a growing collection of vintage and new age artsy pins. Many of these pins come from small businesses or artists I admire. Supporting them during the crisis was a tiny way to give back to my creative community. So while quarantined due to COVID-19, I’ve purchased a few dope additions to my collection. Check them out below:
Some items in my collection have a lot of meaning and are tied to a time in life or a certain place. I specifically want to highlight the Maggie Stephenson pin by Lost Lust Supply for that reason. My friend and most recent manager, before we were both laid off due to COVID-19, brought it to my attention. I instantly fell in love with the colors, movement and illustration style. Every time I look at it, I’m reminded that our bond was not severed by the pandemic and decision by our previous employer. Seeing it also makes me happy that we still communicate often and discuss all things design. Admittedly, it was something I feared as our working relationship was severed. For all those reasons it’s a new favorite in my collection. ❤️
